Do I Need to Bring Anything?
Shauna loved all things Disney, and she had a collection of Minnie Mouse ear headbands. If you also have ear headbands, we encourage you to wear them to Shauna’s Celebration of Life. Roger will be bringing Shauna’s collection. Guests may borrow one to wear during the day, if they would like to do so.
If you plan to participate in Weaving In The Ends, and you have fiber tools like tapestry needles, knitting needles, crochet hooks, or scissors, you are welcome to bring those. We will have tools available for those who don’t already have them.
If you would like to bring food for the luncheon, please fill out the contact form below. Shauna’s friend, Karen Greene, is coordinating the food and will follow up with you!
What About Flowers?
In lieu of flowers, Shauna’s family requests donations to Make A Wish, in Shauna’s memory. Shauna worked for Make A Wish for a while; she loved coordinating volunteers and facilitating wishes.
What Food Will Be Available At The Luncheon?
The Luncheon will be catered by Shauna’s friend, Karen Greene. The current plan is to offer Chicken Tortilla Soup (the tortillas will be on the side, to be added if you want, so this is will be a grain free option) and Minestrone Soup (vegan), and a Salad Bar. There will also be quick breads and cookies (which will contain grain, dairy, and eggs).
If you have additional questions about food, or you’d like to contribute something for the luncheon, please fill out the Contact Form below and Karen will email you!
What is Weaving in the Ends?
Shauna sewed, knit, crocheted, spun, and wove. She left behind several unfinished projects. In the afternoon, we will be working on finishing those projects. Some projects need more work than we will be able to complete in an afternoon, and we will be looking for people to take those home to finish. Some are finished, and literally just need the ends secured.
Finished projects will either be given to their intended recipient if we know who that was, kept by Roger for his memory, or donated to Project Warmies, who distributes them to charities throughout greater-Orlando. Project Warmies has been a partner of Orlando Distaff Day for many years, and since she joined the board of Orlando Distaff Day, Shauna donated many items to Project Warmies.
What Should I Wear?
The Dining Hall at the Youth Camp is a climate controlled building, and there is a paved sidewalk leading from the paved parking area to the building. If you would like to wear more formal attire – business casual or church clothes – you are welcome to do so. If you think you’d like to spend some time before or after the service walking paths in the pine barrens that make up the habitat in Wekiva Springs State Park, you are welcome to wear casual clothes to Shauna’s Celebration of Life. If you’d like to change during the day, there are bathrooms at the Dining Hall where you will be able to do so.

Shauna loved polka dots – all her favorite dresses were polka dotted, and part of what she loved about Minnie Mouse was her polka dotted dress. Wearing polka dots to her Celebration of Life is one way you could honor the things that brought Shauna joy.
What will the happen during the Celebration of Life?
Shauna was Pagan. The Celebration of Life will be a secular pagan service, facilitated by Keith Straley, a Druid friend of Shauna’s, who served with her on the board of Orlando Distaff Day. The service will start by creating a sacred space, forming a sacred circle by calling in the directions. Keith will give a short talk, explaining Pagan beliefs surrounding death. He will then open the floor to anyone who wishes to speak about Shauna. When everyone who wishes to speak has done so, the service will end by closing the circle.
